The First Release of the 2023 Premier Club!
With exquisite new sculptures and finely detailed finishwork, each release in Breyer’s Premier Collection is a true celebration of equine artistry.
The first release in the 2023 Collection is Canción, a Paso Fino stallion.
The Paso Fino is a breed that is prized for its unique natural gait that is cited by enthusiasts as one of the most comfortable rides in the world. Descended from stock brought over to the New World by Spanish colonizers, “Los Caballos de Paso Fino” – the horses with the fine step – began to take shape. After centuries of breeding in the Caribbean and Latin America, the breed found fans in American servicemembers who were stationed in the area during World War II, and soon after Americans began importing the stylish and rhythmic horses from Puerto Rico.
Paso Finos are fairly small, but powerful horses, usually standing between 13 and 15.2 hands high, and can be any color. The Paso Fino’s gait can be performed at three speeds – perhaps the most popular, the Classic Fino, is the slowest speed but the most rapid. Some exhibitors choose to ride their horses over a sounding board to accentuate the unbelievably quick footfall. The Paso Corto picks up speed and extension, but is still relatively collected. The fastest gait, the Paso Largo, brings further extension and less collection but remains harmonious. In addition to their natural gait, they can also perform the walk, trot, canter, and gallop.
Canción’s name is, fittingly, Spanish for “song.” Jennifer Scott of Aspen Leaf Studios is the creative force behind this model’s creation. As a lifelong artist and horsewoman, she has always been inspired by the equine world. Jennifer created Canción as a picturesque Paso Fino stallion – his attentive gaze is accentuated by a large, cresty neck and a billowing mane and tail. She also designed his bright chestnut coat, which brings out every tiny detail of this stunning sculpture. This version features a glossy finish.
Each Premier Collection exclusive model is a hand-painted work of art, and no two are ever precisely the same.
