October 2024: Road Trip

Hey guys! It’s been an honor and a privilege to judge your awesome photos this month! I have been in the hobby since I was 7 and it was all downhill from there. I am a full-time artist and equine art educator and live on a 150-year-old farm in the mountains of Vermont with my husband and our real horses. I love his hobby and don’t see myself leaving anytime soon. Most people know me for my custom Zebras and my various workshops on them with Breyer. I am always and forever the “zebra lady” and it’s a title I wear with pride.

 

 

17 and Under

1^st place:

I love the concept and execution of this photo. The sun coming through the trees really sold the image for me. The only tip I have is to try and shine some light on the model so we can see her a bit more clearly. Overall fantastic job and I wish I was going on that trip!

 

2^nd place:

This photo is so well-lit and I love the fall foliage in the background. It feels like a huge family camping trip.

Really lovely composition and nice, clear lighting. I love the pony in the tent. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wake up with my pony in my room once or twice growing up.

I love that this was taken at the eye level of these horses – it really grounds the photo and makes it believable. Great job bringing the focus to the mare’s face.
