April 2022: Daily Grind
Judging by Kenzie Williamson
This month’s theme is “Daily Grind” - celebrating working horses. I hope to see a variety of entries showing off all of the amazing jobs our hard-working horses do for us!
17 and Under
1st place:
Lia C., IN
This is a very well done photo with great movement and action between the horse and rider! The doll is expertly-posed, telling the story of a speedy mount aboard the Pony Express!
2nd place:
Kiley C., AZ
This is an all-around lovely working cattle scene. It is well-lit with bright, true colors. I love the variety of steers and the movement and energy in your photo.
3rd place:
Lily C., UT
Larry is just so cute! This office scene is very well done, and just so fun! The family photo hanging in the background is my favorite detail. I really appreciated your creative take on the theme!
4th place:
Callie R., KY
Beautiful composition of this photo. The lighting is so soft and emotional, and this trusty working horse is even tied up appropriately! I love how he is patiently waiting for his rider to return, and ready for a day’s work on the farm.
5th place:
Gwyneth Y., MD
I love this adorable fishing scene! The muddy buckets and the doll’s feet dangling in the water made it all the more believable. I think with a couple of tweaks on positioning your doll and straightening out the photo, it would be absolutely perfect.
6th place:
Emilee D., PA
I love the story and energy of this photo! It is composed well with your background scenery in scale. Tighten up those reins and hide your horse’s base next time, and this is perfect. That steer doesn’t stand a chance!
Honorable Mentions:
I just wanted to give a shoutout and honorable mention to this entire group! There were too many great photos to choose from, and you made my decisions quite difficult with all of your creative entries. Keep up the good work!
Elektra S., AL
This is a great search and rescue scene that tells an entire story with great custom details. I love that the horses and dog are working together!
Lila H., NC
I really love this photo - the golden hour lighting is gorgeous and powerful to the overall image. With your model a little bit further away from the machinery in the background, it would be perfectly in scale!
Mariner G., VA
Smoky is not always the easiest model to work with, but he was a great choice for this photo, adding to the movement and action of catching the calf!
Ellie P., MD
I love your use of props here! A few things could be tweaked like the length of your grass here, but overall I love how fun and creative this scene is about Hollywood horses.
18 and Over
1st place:
Jaclyn M., ON, Canada
I adore this snowy scene! Your photo is composed beautifully, and incredibly realistic - all the way down to the perfectly-sized logs and snowflakes. Well done!
2nd place:
Miriam O., MN
This is a beautiful photo of the powerful connection and healing of therapy horses. I love your composition and soft lighting. Sweep up the out-of-scale hay, and this is a perfect photo!
3rd place:
Cade R., AZ
This is a great search and rescue scene! The details and scenery work well together telling the story of your working team. The splinted leg is a great touch, but your patient needs a pillow!Jasmine T., OR
Stablemates scale can be tricky to pull off - but you executed it well here! Love your use of cows in the backdrop, and the story being told with the calf in the foreground. The Breyer twist wires work great as your fence here; this was my favorite detail.
5th place:
Chloe W., SC
We had quite a few harnessed entries, but I loved that yours was well-fitted and adorned with bells. Trimming up your grass in scale would take your photos to the next level.
6th place:
Caitlin E., CO
While the plants and bark are not in scale, I do love the color and whimsical feel of this photo! Your driver is really enjoying the sunshine through the forest.
