Benefit Test Run Misty and Stormy Up for Auction!

Misty of Chincoteague has long been part of the Breyer story – since her first Breyer model was released in 1972 she has never left the regular line, making her the longest-running Breyer model in history. Breyer was also a longtime supporter of the original Misty of Chincoteague Foundation, and was among the primary funders of the bronze statue of Misty that now resides on Chincoteague Island. Author Marguerite Henry herself took great pride in Breyer’s models of her equine icons, happy that they helped keep them “alive” for generations of children to come.

What some may not know is that Henry’s 1947 novel, while fictional, was inspired by the real-life Beebe family of Chincoteague, Virginia, from whom Marguerite purchased the real Misty from as a weanling. A decade later, Misty returned to the Beebe Ranch to live out the rest of her days, and her descendants still live on the property today. In addition to Misty herself, Breyer has created models of many of her foals and relatives, including perhaps the most famous – Stormy – the subject of the 1963 sequel Stormy, Misty’s Foal.

When we first learned of the potential redevelopment plans for what remains of the Beebe Ranch, the Breyer team immediately began brainstorming ways to help the Museum of Chincoteague Island acquire and preserve the site. We are excited to offer this beautiful test run Gold Misty and Stormy set via eBay auction, with all proceeds to be donated to the Museum of Chincoteague Island’s ongoing fundraiser to save the Beebe Ranch.

Created on molds #19 and #20, this set is decorated as metallic gold versions of Misty and Stormy’s iconic pinto patterns with a high gloss finish, created by the talented artisans at Breyer's New Jersey facility. A certificate of authenticity is included.
