February 2021: Love is in the Air

There are so many types of love, from love between two individuals, or love between a horse and rider, that this opened the door to quite an array of interpretation! Leave it to the hobby to come up with so many clever and resourceful ways to show “I love you” in the form of a picture! Each entry has so much merit; you folks made my job super-difficult. I had to really, really stick with the theme of “Love is in the air” and I judged my entries on how universally recognizable that theme was with each picture.

Of course I had to limit my choices to only six (plus I gave some honorable mentions!) and the 17 and Under division had almost 100 entries! I wish I could give each and every one of you a ribbon for the time, effort, thought and insights you presented, and I could tell each entry had deliberation, intent and hard work behind it. But being the judge I had to choose, and here are my choices. I do want to say, great job to all of you who entered!

 

17 and Under

1^st place:

 

Kinsey B., FL

"This is the night, what a beautiful night..."

...and I have been singing that ever since I first saw this entry. What a classic, classy way to photograph Breyer models that makes it immediately recognizable as love being in the air. Bravo!

 

2^nd place:

Emily S., AL

I don’t think you can get more quintessential "love" than sunsets and snuggles, surrounded by a heart of flowers. This pretty much embraces love in the air. The positioning of the horses is perfect, and this picture just screams "LOVE!"

 

3^rd place:

I love everything about this picture, down to the shape of the heart that the horses and riders form together. Love is definitely in the air here!

 

4^th place:

Sometimes simple is really effective! Between the color of the background and the expressions of the horses, this is a really pretty picture that is very obviously portraying love.

 

5^th place:

I adore this picture. It tells an entire story! Love is definitely in the air! The little hearts are a nice touch, and the lighting is perfect. I would actually like to read about the story that led up to this moment - it looks like something right out of a romantic movie!

The ambiance, the adorable banner, the horses looking in the window... a fantastic entry! Very cute and clever!

 

 

 

Honorable Mentions:

 

Allison A., GA

I adore this picture. Again, simple but with perfect lighting and a very clear focus on the theme: love! Well done with the horse having a sweet expression and the placement of the doll. This is a really sweet portrait with great lighting.

 

 

Mica Z., IL

This may have been one of my favorite pictures. It was not quite as universal for love "being in the air" as the others were, but for this Breyer horse lover and horse enthusiast, it certainly speaks volumes! I would definitely love to get a valentine like this (take note, Breyer!) and thought this photo was extremely well-executed and thought-out. Kudos!

Literally, love in the air! An adorable representation of Cupid! I adore the heart mosaic in the background.

The attention to detail in this photo warrants a mention! I adore both this entire setup and the horse named Valentine, who looks as sweet as his name.

The hoofprint is what caught my eye - obviously this girl and her helper have love on their minds as they create little valentines for their loved ones! Adorable! 

 

 

 

 

18 and Over

1^st place:

I love this picture - everything about it is harmonious with love being in the air. Such a peaceful vision of two sets of lovebirds enjoying a perfectly relaxing, and perhaps romantic, day at the lake. Nicely done!

 

2^nd place:

Cupid definitely visited this stable! What a fun interpretation, and there is no mistaking the theme with this picture! I love the horse choices, and their expressions really match the feeling you are trying to convey.

 

3^rd place:

A really, really cute setup. I especially love the corgi with the card, just a really great scene! I have to laugh at the timing of the dude, though - his girlfriend looks a little busy at the moment!

The love between parent and child is very strong, and this photo is a great representation of that love! What a strong, magical picture!

This one gives me best friend vibes, and when you have a bestie, you definitely know how much you love them! Love is definitely in the air! I adore this take on it, and the lighting, colors, and angles are all super-fun and creative.

I love the composition of this photo, and the black and white color palette really makes it stand out. Just a lovely shot with the theme front and center!

This picture is like an entire story of how two foals grew up to be best friends. Love is definitely in the air for these little guys! Absolutely stunning shot!

This is a really, really cute shot. The little card pulls the idea together, and it is a sweet photo of shared love. I love the idea behind it!
