White Hot!

White Hot!

We kicked off our Special Run model reveals yesterday with the reveal of Speos, and today we are kicking off the reveals of this year’s Limited Edition models with this white hot mare – Via Lattea!

This Italian Trotter mare has turned heads on the track for more than one reason! Born in Italy, under the shadow of the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, this special mare became Europe’s first white trotter. Named after the white stars found in the Milky Way, she was bought by Tristan Sjoberg, who has indeed helped this special mare become a star on and off the track.

Via, who is no stranger to the spotlight, attracts the attention of trainers and press wherever she goes. Trainer Åke Svanstedt would say Via Lattea knows she is queen of the track and would rather get her picture taken than train!

Ending her successful racing career in 2019, which included a win in the $30,000 Bobby Weiss Series at Pocono Downs, Via Lattea has become a successful broodmare, even producing another white trotter foal in 2022!

For this year’s BreyerFest celebration of Driving Forward, Via Lattea has been done on mold #816 in beautiful, creamy white with soft pink highlights on her face and belly. All BreyerFest ticket holders will have access to purchase this stunning mare during BreyerFest weekend, and VIP ticket buyers will have the added bonus of being among the first to select and purchase this stunner as a part of their ticket package.

As well, BreyerFest fans joining us in person at the Kentucky Horse Park this summer will have the opportunity to meet this beautiful mare in person!

We will see you right back here on the BreyerFest Blog tomorrow!

I my favorite is via she so cute

Let’s get some things straight, folks.

1. She does not have dapples. White coats stain. A lot.

2. Not a cremello. White.

3. Lethal white is not a color. It’s a genetic disorder tied to frame overo genes. The horse is born white but dies within a few hours or days because their colon is nonfunctional. The disease is untreatable and always fatal. Hence the term lethal.

Via Lattea is the first horse confirmed to carry the W24 allele that produces a genetically dominant white pattern. Doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened before, but it’s the first time scientists have identified it. She’s not the only white Standardbred alive now or even the first, though the color is rare in the breed.

Personally, not a fan of Standardbred racing. Where I live, there is a racing to buggy horse to slaughter pipeline. And white horses have an increased risk of skin cancer due to their lack of pigment. Breeding for white Standardbreds is more about the wow factor (and bigger price tags at auction) than it is about improving the breed.
