Meet your Celebration Horse!

Meet Your Celebration Horse!

We are turning down the girl power anthems here at HQ for just long enough to introduce you to this equestrian icon – the incredible BreyerFest 2024 Celebration Horse, who is a true “surviving against all odds” story.

Meet – Athenian Lady.

Amanda Delgado first met the neglected and abused chestnut paint mare in 2015, standing in the middle of a desolate pasture, but even as rough and starved as she looked Amanda saw that the mare carried herself with a regal, strong, and graceful presence. Named aptly after the Greek goddess of wisdom and war, Athenian Lady has proven the naysayers wrong and has transformed from a feral and dangerous rescue horse to stunning World Champion.

Before - Athena right after her rescue After - A beautiful, healthy Athena

Athena and Amanda have found their niche in Western Dressage. After facing numerous obstacles during their training, they have gone on to win World Champion Titles in the 2019 Pinto World Championship Show and the 2020 WDAA World Championship Show. Furthering their resume, they earned the title in 2021 as 5x International Champion at the WDAA International Challenge and 4x World Champion at the WDAA World Championship Show. Athena continues her winning ways in the show ring and is continuing her journey up the levels in Western Dressage.

After many ups and downs, triumphs and defeats, Athena has, against all odds, proven she is a true champion. Despite everyone telling Amanda that Athena would never survive, then never be rideable, then never be a show horse, Athena has shown the world that anything is truly possible. A true underdog, she is living proof that we are not defined by one point in our lives, and that the opportunities in our future are limitless.

Athenian Lady, done as a mare on the Australian Stock Horse model, mold #746, as a glowing chestnut will be available to select BreyerFest ticket holders, and all attendees will be able to meet this beautiful champion and her owner Amanda next summer at BreyerFest.

More information on BreyerFest tickets will be released in the coming months, so keep your eyes on the BreyerFest Blog!

Lovely Horse, beautiful chestnut color. Her story is heart warming, perfect pick for the 2024 celebration horse. I saw the words western dressage in her show history. So I had to do some investigating; Cowboy dressage, Western dressage? I have come across these classes listed in more recent years. I think I did a good job researching these classes, I even found some videos of this style of training/competition to watch. I kind of get it. Let me say this, I have been studying Traditional Dressage since I was very young, and have trained following the old classical school ways and the Spanish Riding School (in Austria) ways. Dressage is French for Training: key words, exercises/movements used to strengthen and make each individual horse/mule move efficiently. If any horse is properly trained using these methods, they would live longer useful lives. The end result is always a happier horse mentally and is physically sounder. It is the rider, handler and a trainer’s responsibility to understand how to use these exercises and movements used on horses. I have ridden the same on any horse; no matter what breed, or how the horse is used; western, hunt, bareback, etc.. The horse always ends up happier. Every horse has his own way of moving, dressage is used to improve that individuals way of going. Example: You can’t take a daisy cutter ( low striding quarter horse) and make it move like a high stepping warmblood, but you can improve each one of these horse’s own way of moving by proper training (dressage). Hats off to those that take the time to understand good training and use dressage to improve their horse(s). There is no gimmick, trick or magic to properly train a horse. Any one puzzled about dressage, hope my thoughts help you better understand the world of training a horse. Thanks to Breyer for picking Athena and Amanda, maybe more people will better understand the words dressage/training of the horse.
