Cody's Wish Wins Secretariat Vox Populi Award
Thoroughbred stallion Cody's Wish has become the first back-to-back winner of the Secretariat Vox Populi Award. Latin for "voice of the people," the award was created by Secretariat's late owner Penny Chenery and "recognizes the horse whose popularity and racing excellence best resounded with the American public and gained recognition for Thoroughbred racing." Driven by fan votes, the award is presented annually. Cody's Wish joins California Chrome as the second horse to receive the award more than once, and is the first to win two years in a row.
The story of Cody's Wish and Cody Dorman has received significant media attention - from the moment they first connected in 2018, the bond between the horse and a young boy living with a genetic disorder was something special. For five years the Dorman family followed the stallion's racing career and were present at many of his most prestigious wins, including the swan song of his career: the 2023 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. Sadly, Cody passed away the following day.
Although they were not able to attend the official presentation of the award at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, January 13th, the Dorman family recorded a video message to fans from Kentucky this week, with Cody's Wish joining them.
Breyer's portrait model of Cody's Wish is available now at both BreyerHorses.com and your favorite local Breyer retailer. As part of his model's release, Breyer is making a $10,000 donation to Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
